Kwanzaa is a celebration of community, family, and culture. It was created by Dr. Maulana Kerenga in 1966 to be the first pan-African holiday. The goal of its’ creation has always been to help African American reconnect with their African roots and culture. Although, Kwanzaa is celebrated during December 26th - January 1st, the seven principals of Kwanzaa are rooted in the African way of living.
